Three weeks passed, and the divorce was almost finalized. Jocelyn wanted to appear strong, so she didn’t show her anger and despair.
Nadine had arranged a sleepover at her house with Jocelyn for that Friday night. Everything from the Lily Korp Facebook account had been forgotten. Or at least Jocelyn had forgotten about it...
Before Jocelyn’s parents had alerted Jocelyn of their divorce, she had been so wrapped up in the picture that she’d been spending hours just thinking about it.
The picture. It was something that I don’t think the girls should have ever seen. It seems as if it caused so much pain and confusion for them. And no one - but especially not Nadine and Jocelyn needed that type of confusion. Despite the fact that they seemed so strong and happy, they weren’t. And from this point on, they would hardly ever be happy.
What had happened that night when Nadine had discovered the true meaning of the picture? Well, Nadine had zoomed in on the picture, and it had not helped.
Nadine had been using her laptop from her desk, and reached up to grab her glass of water which had been on the shelf above. When she was sitting back in her chair, her head was above the screen and the hidden words were revealed.
In some pictures, there are hidden illusions, and if you tilt your screen backwards, you will be able to see the hidden picture. In Lily’s picture of “dirt” this was the case.
When Nadine had seen the screen from a different angle, the words had been revealed.
There was the top half of a hollowed circle, and above it two smaller circles beside each other. And there had been one comment on the picture: :(
How had the girls not taken the hint? The picture was of a sad face. All of this time and effort had been committed to figuring out what the picture was, and now it wasn’t even anything important.
And the reason why Nadine hadn’t told Jocelyn what the picture was of, was because it had been keeping her mind off of her parents’ ugly divorce. Without it Jocelyn would have probably broken down - and now that she had broken down publicly at school, Nadine felt okay bringing up the picture and telling Jocelyn what it was.
And to Nadine’s surprise, when she had told Jocelyn, Jocelyn answered with, “Oh Nad, it has taken you much too long to figure that out”
Nadine raised an eyebrow.
“Nad, I had that figured out over a month ago,” Jocelyn smiled and then started laughing with Nadine over how each of them had known the other so well as to keep something a secret to entertain them when the only thing entertaining was trying to keep a secret.
Just a girl...
